THE KIENYEJI CHICKEN STORY THAT INSPIRED KAJIADO TEACHERS TO JOIN KEWOTA

When the National Treasurer, Jacinta Ndegwa walked into the staffroom at Saina Primary School, she had only one mission: Greeting the staff. Salamu ni nusu ya kuonana.

However, before she drove in word had gotten round that the National Treasurer was around. They nearly 20 teachers gathered purposely to see her and hear from her NT.

When she rose to speak, she reminded the teachers of their right to Association and as guaranteed in the Constitution.

She further spoke of how table banking has taken off in many KEWOTA Chapters and that they, the teachers could do the same. Table banking is a KEWOTA empowerment scheme popularly referred to as Inua Dada.

“Unaweza fuga kuku KIENYEJI, you don’t even need to feed it for it scavenges for its own food and comes back to roost every evening. You only provide shelter. Have about 10 of them and you will never miss the little money for Chama and other things. And when you are doing well in your Chama, we shall provide seed money for all of you, ” she said.

She further reminded the teachers that table banking can make them more motivated.

And with that and to her pleasant surprise, when she was done speaking about KEWOTA benefits- as elaborated in the 13 point agenda- to the teachers, all the members of staff had already picked the forms and signed up to be KEWOTA members.

A good story always influences positively. Kweli chema chajiuza!
