It was a normal Tuesday morning when we set off to Kajiado for an empowerment activity. Our purpose was to donate fodder to a farmer in Kajiado who is also a KEWOTA member.
However, when we arrived at Ngatataek center, about 50 from Kajiado along Kajiado Namanga Highway, what we found was far from what we expected. Along the way, there were litters of carcasses of livestock perhaps too weak to soldier on.
For Sophie Meelie, our host, who had 72 cows, only 12 are remaining due to the drought situation in Kajiado and, the fodder – worth thousands of shillings- that KEWOTA took to her only pointed to the more that needs to be done.
Addressing the press from Sophie’s home, the the National Treasurer Jacinta Ndegwa promised that Kewota will do more to lend a hand to this ugly face of ukame.
She also used the opportunity to wish the candidates success in the forthcoming exams.
Ndegwa was accompanied by Kajiado Coordinator Rose Mereu, Kewota communications teamand other members from the region.
The visit also saw a number of teacher join KEWOTA
