Women teachers lobby group Kewota has proposed that the Ministry of Education starts a sporting event for teachers from the grassroots to the national level in order to boost cohesion and their mental health.
Speaking in Nairobi Kewota CEO Benta Opande said teachers have been on the receiving end on matters mental health and sporting activities will go along way towards empowering the teacher’s mental health.
“We have seen in the past teachers committing suicide due to mental health issues and that’s why we are calling on the Ministry of Education to get involved in sporting activities involving teachers and address the issue of mental health because it is real and it cannot be ignored,” said Ms Opande.
Mrs Opande added that in future KEWOTA will up their sponsorship in sporting activities involving teachers that will boost their morale. This follows the successful sponsorship of the Kenya Secondary School National competitions
