‘MAY GOD EXALT KEWOTA,’ TEACHER PRAYS FOR KEWOTA AFTER RECEIVING WATER TANK AMIDST RAVAGING DROUGHT

As KEWOTA continues to present its views to CBC Taskforce across the country, a special team was in a place that derives its name from a Maasai word which means treeless plain where different kinds of wildlife roam freely.

Laikipia County yesterday played host to a special team from Nairobi who have touched many lives across the country. When KEWOTA was formed 15 years ago, the leaders vowed to change the lives of girls and females in general and in a society where sex for pads could be the only way to survive during that time of the month and gender based violence is commonplace.

So, instead of roaming freely like wildlife, KEWOTA CEO Benta Opande and the National Treasurer Jacinta Ndegwa opted to make a surprise visit to Shalom Primary School which was established in 2007 – to accommodate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)- in Laikipia donated hundreds of sanitary pads to the girls of the school so that they don’t miss school. It was not just sanitary pads, KEWOTA also gave foodstuff to mitigate against the hunger and drought situation.

The climax of the visit was a donation of 5000 litres water tank to a teacher Mrs Mary Wamae. The donation to wamae adds to the many more tanks that KEWOTA has donated to many in Kenya for a Sister’s Keeper cannot afford to sit on its laurels when another sister does not have a drop of water. “May God uplift KEWOTA for this noble gesture. Water is like oil and now, I can afford to drink clean water and quench my thirst,” said Wamae.

” It pains me to see the kind of suffering that our people are experiencing. But by the grace of God, we shall continue to uplift one another and empower teachers for a better life, Kenyawide,” said Opande.

The two leaders were accompanied by Mrs Kaburugu who, earlier, had presented kEWOTA views to the CBC Taskforce in Laikipia
